man in black

After being here on the Rancho Santa Fé for 3 weeks without being “outside” we went to Tegucigalpa last Saturday together with 2 other volunteers to enjoy and relax there. Of course this is always a good chance of buying groceries and all sort of things one is needing here. Beside of all the usual stuff I finally managed to get some baking agent for making a cake for the tíos in my hogar. Another things was the card game UNO which I will give my boys as a christmas present. And last not least I did myself a favor and bought a guitar. It’s actually been a little odyssee to get one but now I am even happier than before. Ok, it is a cheap one and the sound is mediocre BUT it is all black and I can tell you that playing Johnny Cash songs is way more fun with a black guitar! … walk the line :)

Mr Matze Cash: you are the guru for setting up guitars. What is the right direction and amount for adjusting the guitars neck?
The whole christmas present issue is a big deal right now for all the volunteers. Dorie had a nice idea and bought her mentally handicapped boys a big bucket of (blue!) gel (dunno how this hair stuff is called). This is funny because for Honduran men it seems that looking charming means having a ton of gel in the hair :P
Anyway, just wanted to share with you that I had a nice weekend and that it felt good not to be surrounded by kids all the time.
But time seems to run like hell here. It is already Wednesday again! Monday I had something called “proyecto familiar”. For that all siblings of one family are meeting with one volunteer and spend the evening together. And I had a really cure family with the oldest brother being around 15 and the youngest sister being around 4. So yeah, was fun to cook, eat, play and have fun with them. Should really do this more often because it is really great for the families.

I forget to mention that we had a big party here last week. The “Quinceañera” is the one when all the boys and girls celebrate their 15th birthday.
